Arts & Culture

The Kirksville Arts Association hosted a number of exhibits in their gallery throughout the years. The Arts Association also provides art programs for the community, and hosts both the “Summer on the Square” concert series and the annual autumn Red Barn Arts & Crafts Festival.  Additionally, the Kirksville Community Chorus, Orchestra, and Band, as well as the Kirksville Film Circle, are affiliated with the Kirksville Arts Association.

The University Art Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Ophelia Parrish Building at Truman State University. The gallery is open to the public Monday-Saturday during the academic year with various shows by students and professional artists throughout the year.

Gallery Hours:

Monday – Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Friday 8:30am – 5:00 p.m.
Saturday Noon – 4:30 p.m.

Please note, the University Art Gallery is closed between exhibitions and during all Truman State University breaks.

Curtain Call Theatre is a troupe of local actors who produce theatrical shows in a variety of Kirksville venues throughout the year.  See more Curtain Call news on facebook, or check the Curtain Call website for schedules of upcoming shows!

One of Truman State University’s oldest traditions, the Kohlenberg Lyceum Series provides a unique opportunity to experience cultural presentations you would typically expect to find only in a big city.  The Lyceum Series broadens the cultural experience for students and the community by bringing well-known speakers, dance troupes, musicians and other performers from all parts of the world to the Truman campus.  Information about shows and tickets will be posted online at  http://lyceum.truman.edu.

Kirksville is a great place to both enjoy and exhibit your musical talent! Community Band, Chorus, and Orchestra performances are held throughout the year in a variety of venues. Schedules and information can be found through the Kirksville Arts Association.

The Round Barn features nationally known blues performers as well as area talent (see Curtain Call Theater).  The upper floor of the barn has over 3200 square feet of performance space and a concession area.  See details on the Round Barn facebook page.

Truman State University offers a wide variety of musical performances open to the public. Talented students and faculty, as well as outstanding guest musicians, make the free concerts offered by the University a treat!  The 500 seat Ophelia Parrish Performance Hall is home to over 230 performances each year, as well as music competitions, festivals, and symposiums.  Contact music@truman.edu for more information.

The Truman State University Observatory is housed on the University Farm and provides an opportunity to explore the skies. The Observatory is open to the public on select dates throughout the semester. See the Observatory Calendar for a complete schedule.

Framed in oak beams and adorned with Western-themed art, Jackson Stables offers a scenic location for weddings, banquets, and other gatherings. A wide selection of West Winery Wines is featured, along with local entertainment, open mic nights, and dinner theater groups.
